   The Google era

   Born as a 20% project at Google, Sky Map showed what a phone’s sensors could do.

2. 2012

   Open source

   Sky Map was open-sourced and handed to the community.

3. 2026

   Version 2

   A ground-up rebuild, with a new sky renderer and a new look.
